The girl of this story, Raven, awakes in a strange room, being attended to by an unknown woman. She must find various characters and speak with various people in order to find out why she is the way she is. She will play games, enter mysterious places and uncover hidden secrets.
What makes this app unique is that the user controls Raven’s actions and conversations. Players move the little girl from one place to the next and decide to whom she will talk. When engaging in conversation, the player decides what Raven will ask or say by choosing from a selection of comments or questions. What Raven says will affect the outcome of each conversation.
There is no real gaming quality to this app. There are no battles or things to knock down. Instead, it is a puzzle game with clues to unlocking the adventure. The player must be prepared to spend a lot of time in conversation with the various characters in order to move the plot along.
What I liked: I’ve never seen an app like this. It is so much more than a book, but the focus is on the narrative. The plot is intriguing and the story is engaging. What I didn’t like: The game struggles with responsiveness at times. I found myself having to tap a question or comment more than once in order for it to process. I also tapped the wrong sentence more than once. It might help if the words were larger.
To buy or not to buy: This is a definite buy for anyone looking for an engaging book full of wizardry, mystery and secrets.
