The Best 8 Rockstar Games For The PSP (Countdown)

#8. Beaterator

A co-production between Rockstar Games and music producer Timbaland, Beaterator for PlayStation Portable (PSP) is based on the Web-based music mixing tool of the same name. It features original music and a sound-kit, which includes thousands of loops and sounds produced by Rockstar and multi-platinum producer and entertainer Timbaland exclusively for Beaterator. Designed to put a world-class mixer at your fingertips, it enables easy, powerful and innovative music creation, regardless of the user's experience with music.
Gameplay and Modes
Containing literally thousands of individually sampled sounds and pre-produced looped audio sequences, as well as various modes, Beaterator has the feel of both a tradition musical game where rhythms are tapped out and a real high-end, yet portable music mixer. Action in both these areas draws inspiration from modern musical genres and their production techniques, the most obvious of which being the various sampling techniques found in hip-hop and electronica. The difference here is that the tracks created are all about what you want. Play DJ with the huge amount of pre-produced content, or put on your producer's hat and create your own loops and samples. The choice is yours. The game contains many sub modes, but the two main ones are: Live Play and Studio.

Live Play
An easy to use visual song tool for beginners, Live Play Mode is designed to have users producing professional sounding music right out of the box. Within it players choose a genre of music, and using up to eight pre-produced tracks associated with that style, they set to building a song. This is done by assigning each of the track to specific buttons and graphically representing them in the four corners of the available screens. In the event that players wish to streamline this even further, the mode also contains three exclusive Timbaland instrumental songs, that can be used as a musical backdrop and can be remixed adding samples from the tracks mentioned.
Studio
Studio Mode is similar to Live Play in that you are blending individual loops to create a new song, but in a deeper more advanced way. Instead of a tactile visual representation of the tracks in front of a DJ, players work on tracks arranged on a professional looking 8-track sound board, complete with a wide variety of control knobs, time coding of the song and more. Players can also import new samples and loops--including voice recordings and .wav files--from the PSP's mic and/or memory stick and can even add individual notes within a set scale, so you are always in tune. Using sub-modes, like Sound Editor, Melody Crafter, Drum Crafter, Synth Loop and others, they can then create their own loops, which can in turn make up a single track, blended into a yet greater whole if they so chose. In this players can add virtually as many layers as they want to the music they create, which can then be saved and uploaded to Rockstar Games Social Club for the world to enjoy.

#3. Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars

PSP owners, rejoice - Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, Metacritic.com's highest-rated DS game of all-time is now available for PlayStation Portable. Specifically retooled for the PSP platform, this is a full-fledged game that stands on its own. With an all-new, deep story and visuals complete with upscaled widescreen graphics, enhanced lighting, animations and including all new story missions, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars promises a powerful experience on the PSP, and one not to be missed.
he Story: Left for Dead in the Worst Place in America
Following his father’s murder, Huang Lee is given what would on the surface seem to be a simple mission: to deliver an ancient sword to his Uncle Kenny to ensure his family retains control of the Triad gangs of Liberty City. Huang is a spoiled rich kid who expects everything to run smoothly, but his trip does not go exactly as planned. Only minutes after arriving at the Liberty City airport at the far end of town, he is attacked, robbed and left for dead. Only through quickly thinking is he able to survive and make his way back to his neighborhood, but the damage to he and his family has been done. Now his destiny is to search for honor, riches and revenge in the most dangerous and morally bankrupt city in the world.

Gameplay
Chinatown Wars is set in the Grand Theft Auto IV-imagined version of Liberty City, and contains most of its boroughs and neighborhoods. In exploring and exploiting this vast area, players use the game's rotatable camera to take in a 3D, 360-degree view of their environment, providing an elevated and somewhat skewed third-person perspective, that switches to first-person with the appropriate player action. Assuming the role of Huang Lee your goal is to rise up in the ranks of the underworld to challenge the Triad of Chinatown gangs that have usurped your family's position and recover the stolen heirloom and your lost honor. In true GTA fashion this entails gameplay that embraces the seedy underbelly that Liberty City is famous for. Throughout the game's 70+ missions -- all of which can be replayed even after completion -- and its myriad of side quests, players earn cash by completing jobs ranging from petty street crime, all the way up to drug dealing and assassination. As in other GTA releases, rising competence at crime raises the amount of attention received by police, but unlike previous games here players can not simply outrun alerted authorities. With each additional star added to your 'wanted rating' players must disable or destroy more of the pursuing police units to keep them off your tail. In addition to mission play, the game also contains many opportunities, such as the safe cracking and car hot-wiring mini-games and the various items and weapons hidden throughout the game that demand skill with the PSP's analog nub for success. By whatever means, once players have attained a certain level of cash and street cred they will also be able to recruit members for their own gang who pledge their loyalty by allowing themselves to be tattooed with the mark of the player's choosing.

Cars and Controls
Cars and control schemes play a prominent role in Chinatown Wars. All cars feature GPS functionality based on available roadways. Directions are shown on the lower of the screen as part of the in-game PDA interface, but players may take vehicles off roads wherever possible, with the GPs automatically resetting when back on the pavement. While driving players also have access to five in-game radio stations and use of their weapons. Your PDA provides efficient management tools for your growing crime empire, including quick weapons switching, a running total of available cash, in-game e-mail and Internet access and nearly instant game saves any time. The control scheme in Chinatown Wars utilizes an easy to use and comfortable to play combination of steering and manual and automatic weapon locks and unlocks via shoulder buttons.

Key Game Features:

* Audio and Video Upgrades - Utilizing the superior audio and visual processing power of the PSP, Chinatown Wars is reborn with noticeable boosts in graphic and sound quality.
* An Expansive Liberty City at Your Fingertips - Contemporary Liberty City is a massive world complete with pedestrians, weather and traffic patterns, five different radio stations and four different sprawling boroughs to explore.

Online Bragging Rights and Multiplayer
Care has been taken to ensure that players can share their PSP Chinatown Wars experiences with friends and fellow players in different ways. First, players will have access to the Chinatown Wars as well as the greater Grand Theft Auto communities through the Rockstar Games Social Club. Here they can chat, trade commodities, purchase special in-game items with in-game currency, check the leaderboards and compete in online tournaments. The PSP's Wi-Fi capabilities also gives players the opportunity to take their game online as they battle for supremacy in their own little corner of Liberty City in both head-to-head and co-op multiplayer battles.

#2. Grand Theft Auto Vice City Stories

Vice City, 1984. Opportunity abounds in a city emerging from the swamps, its growth fueled by the violent power struggle in a lucrative drugs trade. Construction is everywhere as a shining metropolis rises from foundations of crime and betrayal. As a soldier, Vic Vance has always protected his dysfunctional family, his country, himself. One bad decision later and that job is about to get much harder. Kicked out onto the streets of a city torn between glamour and gluttony, Vic is faced with a stark choice - build an empire or be crushed.
Impressive graphic overhaul
Vice City Stories is a monumental improvement upon the previous Grand Theft Auto title on the PlayStation Portable. For one, the draw distance has nearly doubled so that buildings and features can be seen across town. Character models and cars are as detailed as if they were on the PlayStation 2 and include all of the shine and transparency that looked so great in other Grand Theft Auto titles. Players can even choose the clothing that Vic will wear in Vice City. Overall, Rockstar has substantially increased all visual elements so that you don't need to make any graphical sacrifices when taking Grand Theft Auto on the road.

Even the city appears as never before- people on the street will notice you and recognize you for the actions you've taken on previous missions. Some even comment about actions you've taken and give you an idea about how the public feels about your notoriety.

Expanded gameplay
New characters never before seen in Vice City add new twists to the story gamers were introduced to in the PlayStation 2 Vice City title. With a playtime of over 15 hours for the storyline alone, there is certainly plenty to see and hear in and around the city. Choose from various objectives to complete such as doing stunts for a chocolate commercial, chasing a known drug dealer to swipe his loot, and patrolling your neighborhood for specific thugs. Knock down objectives and get swept up in the plot or sit back and explore the big city- the choice is yours!

The hallmark style of "sandbox" gameplay is ever present and players can (forcefully) take control of nearly any vehicle they see and roam the streets in search of interesting characters and opportunities. In addition to cars, busses, bikes, and trucks, you can now cruise the waterways of Vice City in a large number of water craft! Jet-skis, motorboats, and even fishing vessels are there for the taking whether you're tracking the bad guy or just killing time. If you need even more mobility, consider one of the many arial options such as helicopters- helpful for taking out enemies from afar.
